Did you know it takes 15+ minutes to cancel your AOL account even if you are talking with an AOL agent? :p
the man did not get fired so dont worry yourself about that. i worked at aol as a sales retention rep for years. the training we had to go through was ugly. if you are really wanting to cancel your account it, we was trained to upset you and make you hang up on us. in that case we would give you 3 free months of free service and then it would show back up on your bill. that is the only way we as reps would get paid. i myself got fired because i did not do all the ling and crap they wanted me too. want to know more just give me a shout.
Good, he deserved to be fired. Customer Service is a joke. I’ve worked Call centers before and will never do it again.
Nice to actually hear the AOL-horror phone call…
Unbelievable. AOL sucks. Everybody should just cancel their account.
Léonie.
there is no way in the world I would have stayed that calm !!
My fathr (a lawyer) actually represented a person whose DEAD parent was still being charged for the account. They would not cancel the account until he sent a message to the VP threatening to sue
haha trying to cancel is not the only problem… try getting rid of the software …. now that is a pain in the ass
The surest and fastest way to cancel AOL, is to call your credit card company and kill their authorization to ding you each month. Your card carrier will understand, as they have fielded thousands of such requests. Then when AOL calls to see whats up, you can tell them to Fuck Off.
Getting rid of the software, is another issue. You pretty much have to reformat your hard-drive, then reinstall everything you want to keep.
@danny: From reading your comment, I don’t doubt you used to work with AOL Customer Service. You’re comment is exactly the caliber I would expect from someone who works in an environment where I pays to ignore the customer. I must say I am quite surprised there is actually a field in which you can do this and keep your job.
@Kyle, I worked as a telemarketer for a about 6 months, they do make you say and do things to get that sale. Needless to say I don’t do telemarketing anymore, but sales in general is a shame. Deception, lies, and misleadings are a sales rep.’s tools.
Wow.. only 15 minutes? You got lucky. Took me almost an hour.
I wound up getting billed for a free trial in college even though I had tried to cancel it before the trial started. It was total hell trying to get them to cancel and get them to refund the money I didn’t ask them to take.
This was a few years ago, but I’m not suprised to see the crap continue.
