I thought to pile up the 10 most dangerous roads in the world. So here are the pics :

Stremnaya road(Road of Death :P)

In the country of Bolivia is a truly amazing road carved into the side of a cliff. Stremnaya road is called the road of death.

Yungas Road:

This is another road of death. One of the most dangerous roads. :p Whoa! Don’t fall off!

Russian Siberian Road to Yakutsk
If you get stuck there then you are not coming out any time soon. ;)

This is the official federal-government highway to Yakutsk, and it is also the only one to get there. As there are no other roads, the intrepid motorists are doomed to wallow in this dirt, or wait in week-long 100 km car line-ups (they say women even gave birth there while waiting).

My first reaction to the last one was “what a bitch to go up that road”… then my second thought was “man, I’d love to ride my motorcycle *down* that road”.

Try the Karakorum highway Islamabad to China through Pakistan. I use to take this route to work many times a year. I consider myself lucky to still be alive.

That’s not Stremnaya road in Bolivia. It’s Guoliang Tunnel in China. Do a little research and you’ll find the truth.

I wish you would provide links to the places where you obtained these photos. I’d like to see more of the original photographer’s work and comments, and I think that giving proper credit is a much neglected responsibility/courtesy in this sort of compilation.
    An excellent photo essay, never-the-less.

Lol, yeah, some of those pics are from Bolivia, but by no means the most dangerous. Lol, I used to race through even worse situations (old road between Cochabamba and Villa Tunari, or the road that goes to Rio Alto Beni, from Independencia) at over 100mph, what you have shown here is peanuts, impressive for a gringo, but nothing else.

Just wanted to say, that my expression was not meant in a bad way, just that in the US most roads area straight and long, in the Andes they are all curvy, and thats how we learn to drive, and drive as fast as we can, no disrespect intended.

The first set of pictures is Guoliang Tunnel Road
    in Hunan Province,China .
The 1200m roadway was carved by 13 villagers using hand tools
    and was completed in 1977.

There is no such place as Stremnaya road.
    Its a complete fabrication . Someone’s idea
of a joke now clutters the internet as a fact.

For quite some time the location of this road was a complete
mystery until Lori M discovered similar pictures on flickr.
    See the story here: http://rickmccharles.com/?p=1230

Here is another set of photos from the same area

The roads to the Ski Resorts are scary. Loose gravel. Sheer drops. No guard rails. No vegetation to catch vehicles. Week before I went there a fellow aussie missed a turn and had clear air for 250 metres.
They weren’t going to be able to recover the vehicle till after winter. Not sure about the bodies.
Know I know why we have Mountain Entry fees in OZ. So we can have roads. Just wish it wasn’t $25 per vehicle.

Hay guys. ive read a true story from the interwebs, the Guoliang Tunnel Road in Hunan Province,China was actually a secret path to a temple built by the aliens for the local villagers to send their sacrifice. at they their crashed spaceship is located on the hill of Guoliang mountains. it was rumoured thats how mongul race existed after breeding with the alien but this information have been kept secret by the communist regime for many years.
